International Geography Honor Society
CONGRATULATIONS NEW MEMBERS!
May 2006

Nine SUNY-Plattsburgh students were initiated into the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the International Geography Honor Society on May 4 at 4:30 PM at SUNY Plattsburgh. Seven of these outstanding students attended the SUNY Plattsburgh ceremony in the Amnesty Room of the College Center. The above photo, taken in front of the Wall of Honor at SUNY-Plattsburgh, shows from left to right - Dr. Bryan Higgins, Stephen Langdon, Oliver Gellerman, Daniel Plotnick, Eric Dickson, Danielle Bargovic, Adam Gorman and Jennifer Nescio. David Gottschall and Henry Pomerantz were also inducted into GTU but are not shown in this picture.
The Plattsburgh chapter was established in 1977 and is the third oldest chapter in the SUNY system after SUNY Buffalo in 1953 and SUNY Albany in 1969. The purpose of the geographical honor society is to further professional interest in geography, to strengthen student and professional training through academic experiences other than those of the classroom and laboratory, to advance the status of geography as a cultural and practical discipline for study, to encourage student research and to create and administer funds for furthering graduate study and/or research.
The first chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon was Alpha Chapter, chartered under the State of Illinois in 1928.
