Feinberg Library
Background: During Spring 2008, Gordon Muir and Carla Hendrix met with the chairs of departments in all three schools about a review of periodical titles that Feinberg Library has individual subscriptions for. The purpose of the review (conducted every 5 years) is to evaluate current subscriptions against current curricular needs and known budget realities. Without regular subscription reviews, the Library budget cannot keep up with the 9% rate of annual inflation in journal costs. Additionally, a review of current subscriptions and subsequent cancellation of identified titles can allow the Library to add subscriptions to selected new titles identified as supporting the change and growth of our curriculum. New subscriptions are evaluated during the fall semester and may include new publisher packages, new individual subscriptions or identification of journal content within existing full text resources.
Immediate Review Action Needed!! Deadline is Friday, August 29th!!
The Excel spreadsheet linked below contains a list of the periodical titles identified by faculty as not critical for the curriculum. The spreadsheet includes title of journal, 2009 subscription cost, availability of journal content in another full text resource, and assorted notes.
Look over the list of titles and email Carla Hendrix or Gordon Muir by Friday, August 29th with the title of any journal you feel is still needed to support student learning in your courses. Please email us with any questions as well. We apologize for the short deadline during the first week of classes, but publisher pressures for renewals have prompted our journal subscription vendor to move the renewal deadline up by a month.
Thank you for your assistance with this review during the spring and summer of this year!
