Nursing Professions Work Group

Minutes from meeting at the Desmond 4/30/04, 10:30- noon - see attendance list

Minutes of January meeting approved - motion D. Smith, second C. Torok

Re conference:
· Feb 25, 26, 2005 dates confirmed and NYSUT facility available.
· 3 persons/chapter funded by UUP plus all NPWG members
· Registration fee to be determined after speaker fees confirmed
· $6000 from UUP for 150 attendees max
· See mock-up of flier distributed
· We need CEUs, budget, brochure, vendors, moderators, etc
· Elayne will work on CEUs, David will work on vendors.
· Estimate of conference fee is about $150
· Concern re speaker's fees - may not be able to afford to pay all the speakers who want/deserve money. (If committee members paid conference fee, rather than UUP, approximately $2250 more dollars available.)
· Consensus is to seek to negotiate with keynote for lower fee, otherwise seek alternate speakers. To discuss with Elayne.
· Moderators will come from within NPWG

As alternative speakers:
Bernadette Curry (Molloy), Barbara Zittel (BON), Ann Sedore (Upstate), Carolyn McCarthy - Ora will pursue these names after consulting with Elayne.

Campus reports:
· Empire State enrollments are level.
· In Syracuse, Lamoyne is starting a new nursing program (2+2) with St Josephs.
· SBUH, NPs dissatisfied with salaries relative to steps secondary to revenue generated by their specialty. Discussion to decrease acceptance in NP programs at SB. Maybe will develop partnerships with other SUNY campuses, once new Dean is identified.
· Ed will be going to Iraq for environmental health issues
· Utica/Rome has changes in academic leadership. Enrollment is steady due to workplace pressure not conducive to working on BS. Considering MS in Nursing Admin or Education.
· Plattsburgh has huge enrollment increases beginning with the junior class. There are many transfers as well as true freshmen. The RN Option program continues at the same pace, without any marketing.
