9/2001-present Associate Professor, Department of Nursing, Plattsburgh State University of New York. Duties as listed for Assistant Professor below. This included distance education via several web-based, asynchronous course management systems.
5/2004-5/2006 Chairperson, Department of Nursing, Plattsburgh
State University of New York. In addition to duties of Associate
Professor, provided management and leadership of the Nursing Program during time
of transition from a full-time chairperson to an elected person. One
course release was allocated for these additional duties.
9/94-9/2001 Assistant Professor, Department of Nursing, Plattsburgh State University
of New York. Duties include classroom and clinical instruction of bachelor's degree students in advanced medical-surgical nursing and pharmacology and instruction of sophomore and RN students in physical assessment.

Castine, duties include assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex medical conditions in adult patients. As of 9/98 this has included making rounds at CVPH Medical Center as an Allied Health Professional of the Medical Staff.

Working approximately 8 hours per week in this internal medicine practice, duties include assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex medical conditions in adult patients. 9/93-4/94 Project Implementation Specialist, Second Foundation, Inc., S.
Burlington, VT. As a member of the implementation team at this Hospital
Information Systems company, responsibilities included oversight of customization
and installation of this RS 6000-based software package for individual hospitals,
with some training of customer personnel. Assisting with future product
development, with consideration toward health care reform, is fundamental
to this position.
7/91-9/93 Outpatient Nurse Practitioner- Dialysis Unit, University Health
Center, Associates in Medicine, Burlington, VT. Reporting to the Medical
Director for the Nephrology group, responsibilities included provision of
primary care to the approximately ninety patients receiving incenter hemodialysis.
These duties included refilling prescriptions, adjusting the dosage of medications,
making adjustments to dialysis prescriptions, ordering and interpreting
laboratory, ECG and radiologic tests, and performing dialysis access procedures
as required.
7/89-5/91 Clinical Director for Medical-Surgical Nursing, Fanny Allen Hospital,
Colchester, VT. Reporting to the Vice-president for Patient Care Services,
duties included 24-hour accountability for all aspects of inpatient nursing
care in this 104-bed acute care hospital; developing and managing the budget
for the nursing units, participating in strategic planning for future hospital
development. This position required supervision of 70 FTEs and management
of a $2.35 million annual budget.
9/86-7/89 Assistant Professor Department of Nursing, State University of
New York, Plattsburgh, NY. Duties include classroom and clinical instruction
of senior bachelor's degree students in advanced medical-surgical nursing;
instruction of sophomore and RN-to-BSN students in physical assessment.
Developed course on Health Care Delivery in American Life.
9/85-9/86 Lecturer Department of Nursing, State University of New York,
Plattsburgh, NY. Duties as listed above for Assistant Professor.
10/83-9/85 Emergency Nurse Practitioner Walk-In/Urgent Care, Regional Health
Center in Wilmington, Wilmington, MA. Working as the second provider in
this busy freestanding emergency center, duties included assessment and
treatment of walk-in patients of all ages based on protocols. This included
ordering and interpreting X-ray and laboratory tests, suturing lacerations,
performing advanced life support techniques, including endotracheal intubation,
and accompanying patients during ambulance transport for admission, as well
as routine treatment of more common acute complaints.
4/83-9/83 Flight Nurse Practitioner, Flight Nursing, Inc., Fort Lauderdale,
FL. Duties with this air ambulance service included providing advanced life
support for patients of all ages, including neonates, on a variety of aircraft.
1/82-4/83 Emergency Nurse Practitioner, EMSA, Plantation, FL. Contracted
by this company to provide emergency room coverage for Hendry General Hospital,
Clewiston, FL, duties included solo coverage for two 24-hour shifts per
week, with on-call MD backup, providing complete care for almost all of
the 20 patients seen per day.
3/80-10/81 Emergency Room Nurse, Carney Hospital, Boston, MA. Staff and charge
nurse in the Emergency Room of this 376-bed teaching hospital which has
42,000 ER visits annually. Final clinical rotation of Nurse Practitioner
program completed here 6/81-9/81.
3/80-1/82 Critical Care Nurse, Kimberly Nursing Service, Boston, MA and Ft.
Lauderdale, FL. As agency nurse, worked in various major critical care units
in both cities as staff replacement, averaging one shift per week, while
in graduate school.
10/77-12/79 Frontier Nurse, Public Health Service Hospital, Kotzebue, AK.
Staff and charge nurse with rotation through all units of this 30-bed Indian
Health Service hospital. This included assessment and treatment on standing
orders of walk-in and radio-reported patients, med-evac of critical patients
450 miles to Anchorage in a variety of aircraft, and occasional assignment to village
health-aide stations.
