SUNY Plattsburgh's LIB105 instructors continuously work to help students make connections between what they already know (how to use a telephone book or web page to find a dentist for example) and how to use information resources (how to find articles about dentistry in an electronic journal index, reference work or in Google scholar). Beyond that, we work to teach what the underlying information concepts are (organizational schemes based on subjects and tags with an understandable controlled or free-text vocabulary). And beyond that, we create learning opportunities for students to explore the ethical, legal and socioeconomic issues surrounding our use of information and technology.
