Assignment – Week/Module 2, 2nd assignment
- Use
the data from the United Nations Social Indicators, Social Indicators on
Housing. http://unstats.un.org/unsd/demographic/products/socind/housing.htm
- Choose
five (ten?) countries to use in this homework assignment from the data
provided on the Web site.
- Using the Excel 2000
Tutorial (http://www.fgcu.edu/support/office2000/excel/
from Florida Gulf Coast Univ. as your guide.
- Set
up a new Excel spreadsheet with the file name:
HousingByCountry. List
the five (ten?) countries in the left hand column.
- Create
a column to the right of the first column, called Persons/Room
- Enter
the data for each country in the appropriate cell on your spreadsheet.
- Following
the steps laid out in the tutorial, for Charts, Chart Wizard,
(http://www.fgcu.edu/support/office2000/excel/charts.html
) create a chart, choosing a chart type you feel is appropriate for the data
presented (from Reading on What Charts for What Data—there is not one
correct type of chart for this assignment)
- When
prompted by the Chart Wizard, label your X-axis, Countries and your Y-axis,
Average Number of Persons/Room. Choose
an appropriate title for your chart in this step too.
- When
prompted by the Chart Wizard to choose a location for your chart, choose As
A New Sheet.
- Once
you’ve clicked Finish, play around with options described in the tutorial
to create a border for your chart and angle the text on the X-axis to 45
degrees. This is the minimum formatting you need to do.
You can do other formatting if you like.
Save your spreadsheet and chart for the final time.
- Attach
your spreadsheet (filename: HousingByCountry)
to this written assignment. For
information on attaching a file to a written assignment, refer to
Instructions for this assignment. Be
sure to save it as an Excel (.xls) file NOT an .rtf file.
I can open an Excel file attachment to review your homework.
