Living History Education Foundation
I am extremely excited about the alliance between SUNY Plattsburgh
Departments of Education and the Living History Education Foundation.. Go to:
We will be able to offer professional development courses to the teachers of
the North Country. In addition, this is aligned to the recent NYSED
"Proposed New York Sate Professional Standards"
- New York State's Professional Development Standards are intended to
define effective professional development for all teachers that will support
implementation of New York State’s teacher professional development and tenure
regulations. The development of teachers’ knowledge and skills begins with
rigorous teacher preparation programs that include both content and pedagogy,
and continues throughout their careers through effective, ongoing,
professional development. Achievement of these standards requires that
teachers, in collaboration with building and district administrators,
institutions of higher education and the New York State Education Department
work together to ensure that professional development is of the highest
quality and accessible to all teachers (http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/resteachers/stdsdraft.htm).
I was exceptionally pleased with the high level of interest from the teachers
who participated in the courses that
were offered during the summer of 2007. We want to continue the alliance
with the Living History Education Foundation (LHEF).
Joe Ryan has been extremely
supportive of our efforts.
The ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC), stated: “For
the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” By
providing high quality professional development to the North Country Teachers
and by promoting North County collegiality, you will have the chance to
implement what you have gained from this opportunity and make history
“come alive” for your students.
