 Cardinals Place Third at St. Lawrence Indoor Classic  

CANTON, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team had its season debut on Saturday, scoring 116 points for third place at the St. Lawrence Indoor Classic held at Newell Field House.  The Cardinals were just five points behind runner-up and conference foe Oswego State.  COMPLETE MEET RESULTS

Seth Yernye claimed third-place in the mile run for the Cardinals. He finished the race in 4 minutes and 25.25 seconds. Plattsburgh picked up another third-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay, where Bryan Mockus, Josh Mockus, Peter Hamm and Charles Berg passed the baton to one another in 1:34.85.

Jeff Stitt took second in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet and 10-3/4 inches. Claiming first in the field events were Andrew Krug and Schuyler Field. Krug jumped 6-33/4 in the high jump to take the top position and qualify for a spot at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the season. Field propelled himself to a height of 12-111/2 and the top spot in the pole vault.

I" am satisfied with how we performed in our first meet of the season," Plattsburgh head coach John Lynch commented. "I believe everybody is pretty fit, so we will primarily be working on technical aspects as we look to improve throughout the season and hopefully finish in the top-five of the conference."

 Cardinals Place Third at St. Lawrence Indoor Classic  

CANTON, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team had its season debut on Saturday, scoring 71-1/2 points for third place at the St. Lawrence Indoor Classic held at Newell Field House.  The Cardinals finished 4-1/2 points ahead of State University of New York Athletic Conference foe Oswego State.  COMPLETE MEET RESULTS  

One of the best highlights included a third-place finish for Mahalia Ewers in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.85 seconds. Ewers teamed up with Amy McCasland, Jennifer Risler and Jen Villanova for a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4 minutes and 16.29 seconds.

In the field events, Shannon Young tied for second in the shot put with a toss of 36 feet, 7-1/2 inches. Villanova took another second for the Cardinals in the long jump with a mark of 15-113/4.  It came down to a jump off in the high jump, with Plattsburgh's Felicia Sanges losing to Amanda Maynard of St. Lawrence for the first place spot. Both jumpers flew over the bar at 4-111/2. Leena Peters-Uitto took third in the event for the Cardinals with a jump of 4-51/2.
