Just looked up this section! Sorry for delay. I think that the book does do enough worked examples for a student to grasp the ideas. You can also use the lab time to ask questions such as these, plus asking any Physics major, the instructor in the learning center, any lab instructor or, finally, me, during office hours. What I am finding is the average student has poor algebra and trig skills, skills which are essential in learning physics, even at the intro level.
