Choosing an Internship Site: Points to consider

Many factors go into selecting your preferred internship hospital, including geography, cost, admission criteria, and reputation.  Although your professors and advisor can be much help in this process, the decision is ultimately yours to make.  To help you in making such a decision, here are some aspects to consider:

Tuition & Fees 2009 - 2010 (subject to change):

• Berkshire Medical Center           $ 2000 (this includes some books)
• Danbury Hospital                        $ 0 (books are ~ $ 500)
• Rochester General Hospital         $ 5,800 + books (financial assistance available for Plattsburgh students)
• New York Methodist Hospital:    $12,500 + fees

Accommodations (Room & Board)

• Berkshire Medical Center           Low-cost housing available within walking distance ($150/month)
• Danbury Hospital                        Free dorm room + meal allowance
• Hartford Hospital                        Inexpensive dorm rooms available
• Rochester General Hospital         Apartments available across the street from hospital (~$290/mo)

* Admission is competitive among students from several colleges. Admission is not guaranteed.

Application Deadline*

     I strongly recommend that you apply as early as possible, even if the deadline is not until next year.  many programs fill up earlier than the deadline. Applying in September or October is not too early!

• Hartford Hospital                        February 1
• Rochester General Hospital         Rolling admission - apply early

Approx. Program dates (based on 2005 - 2006 Year)

• Berkshire Medical Center           12 months, starting in July 
• Danbury Hospital                        12 months, starting in late June
• Hartford Hospital                        12 months, starting in June
• Rochester General Hospital         12 months, starting in August
• New York Methodist Hospital:    12 months, starting in September
