Students who are interested in gaining career-related professional experience in psychology should consider enrolling in PSY 497/498. The difference between the two course numbers is based on the number of credits taken.

To register for PSY 497/498, there are some specific prerequisites and there is an application process that occurs in the semester prior to when you want to do the internship. It is very helpful for the sites, the psychology fieldwork coordinator, and for you as a student if you follow the process and timeline for registration for fieldwork in psychology. Students cannot register themselves for PSY 497/498 through Banner.

For psychology fieldwork/internships, there is a seminar that accompanies the hours spent working at the site. The academic requirements for the course are described in the course syllabus. The course is graded (A-E) and performance in the seminar requirements and in the site duties contribute to your grade.

There is a brochure available in the psychology office (Beaumont 211) that describes the sites that psychology students can use. The Career Development Center may also have information on potential internships for psychology majors.
