A picture of snottites from Cueva de Villa Luz (Cueva de las Sardinas) in Tabasco, Mexico. Snottites are aerial microbial biofilms that drip down from the ceiling like a stalactite made of mucus. But these are dripping battery acid produced as a waste product of the metabolism of chemoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. Photo by Jim Pizarowicz.
