HED 311 HEALTH IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY


COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Health in Contemporary Society is a comparison of the factors that affect the well being of the people of the world. Emphasis is on the diversity of health achievement, influence of demographic trends, resource management, poverty, social change, human rights, public policy and international cooperation. Research skills, writing skills and the use of technology will be enhanced by the preparation of a country portfolio and a research paper.

OBJECTIVES: 

This course will provide an opportunity for you to:
1. compare the health status of industrial and developing nations
2. consider the influence of culture and environment on health
3. analyze the relationship between population and health
4. study the influence of poverty
5. identify major world health problems
6. analyze the relationship between politics and health
7. explore the challenges and priorities of international cooperation
8. develop a greater appreciation of other cultures
9. recognize the interconnectedness of human existence
