Instrument Housing

When mounting our depthfinder and knotmeter/log, we didn't want to cut the traditional holes into the bulkhead.   Pedestal mounting was the obvious solution.    Instrument pods of a variety of types are available commercially, however, in general these mount off to the sides of the wheel guard and can tend to get in the way in a small cockpit.   Our solution was to build a custom box that fits inside the wheel guard above the pedestal.  This attaches to the wheel guard with screws from inside the box and the wiring is routed down the inside of the wheel guard tubing (just barely visible on the port side between the box and the tubing).    The box itself was fabricated from light cardboard that was subsequently laminated on both the inside and outside with fiberglass.  The front panel, made from formica, can be removed for access to the instrument connections.
