The Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the college.  The Deans, Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents, Director of the Library and Academic Computing, the Registrar and Director of Continuing Education report directly to the Academic Vice President.

 

 

The duties of the Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs include directing the College's General Education Program,  coordinating graduate programs, directing the Freshman Seminar Program, developing program articulation with two-year colleges, and developing programs and services for transfer students, directing the Individualized Major Program, coordinating interdisciplinary institutes, and coordinating the National Faculty Exchange Program on the Plattsburgh campus.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

 

Courses I have taught include Introduction to Anthropology, Native Peoples of North America, Culture and Belief, Anthropological Theory, Intentional Communities, Cross-Cultural Understanding, American Culture, Identity and Culture, Anthropology and History, Medical Anthropology, Culture and Alienation, the Anthropology of War, Medicine and Society, and Anthropology and Global Perspectives.  Other teaching duties include a workshop on alcoholism, Freshman Seminars, a special seminar on Acadian Studies, lectures in Canadian Studies, a course on Science, Technology and Values, a workshop for Primary and Secondary school teachers on using group-inquiry in the classroom, an Honors Course for Presidential Fellows, and participation in the Looking for America Freshman Course Cluster.

·         Naskapi Patterns of Physical and Mental Health.  June through October, 1989

·         The Impact of Social Change on the Naskapi of Schefferville, Quebec.  Summer of 1988

·         The social and economic history of an Acadian fishing village in Northeastern New Brunswick.  Field research conducted in the summers of 1974, 1975, 1976,  and the Fall of 1975.

·         Fieldwork Director in Schefferville, Quebec, Summer 1968.  My responsibilities included directing three graduate students in their research on Naskapi Indians.

·         Dissertation research on economic change and adaptation of Naskapi Indians in Schefferville, Quebec.  January to August 1966

·         Political Change among the Cree Indians on Hudson's Bay, Summer 1965.
