Peasant Protest

Small scale agriculturists do not fare well in the culture of capitalism, economically, socially, or politically.  For that reason they often resist capitalist expansion, "as actively as they can, as passively as they must," as Immanual Wallerstein put it.  The following sites address, at one level or another, peasant protest.  The Zapatista protest in Mexico is discussed   in Global Problems and the Culture of Capitalism.  Arm the Spirit  has many links to other peasant protest and antisystemic movements around the world.
