Introduction to Part I Videos: Money and Economic Growth

The videos in this set largely address the issue of money and its relationship to our need for perpetual economic growth.  We live in a society that requires perpetual economic growth; that is you must spend (and business must earn) more this year than last and more next year than this in perpetuity.  Why this is so is not readily apparent, but we suggest in Global Problems and the Culture of Capitalism that it has to do with money—the ultimate philosopher’s stone—and the fact that today’s money is fiat or credit money, that is created out of debt.   The videos in this set examine debt money and the implications it has for the kind of society we live in.
