Dionex DX-500 Ion Chromatogaph/HPLC (1995)

1. Ion chromatography is used for measuring ions in aqueous systems
2. IC is a subset
of HPLC, which is
used largely for polar to nonpolar
organics in more nonpolar solvents.
3. Dionex
(a spinoff from DOW) made the first useful IC (late 70's) when
they patented
suppressor systems,
which reduce the background
conductance
signal of the eluent.
4. Most IC systems use a conductance
detector.
