As I watched Places in the Heart on Thursday I was struck with how well it illustrated Mead's me/I distinction. So many traditional roles are projected on Sally Field's character reflecting her gender, race, and class, and it's remarkable and inspiring, I think, how she resists these restrictions and creates a new, better world for herself and her family with such courage and persistence. What other course concepts or themes did you see reflected in the movie?
