I feel that gender is constructed from society and it's values. We are taught what to wear, what to think, even what job would be good for us. More and more the gender stereotype is not being followed, but some still feel it is what should and does define who we are. Social construction of gender begins even before we are born. Mothers find out what sex the child is and from there on it is pink blankets and flowered clothes, or blue overalls to stuffed footballs. I do not feel it is done on purpose, but it is what people know, and how they know to raise the child
