Short biography

I obtained my B.Sc. in 1987 from the Psychology department at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. After that I caught the train down to the University of Oxford where I obtained my D.Phil. in 1990 from the faculty of physiological sciences. I subsequently took a bus to Heathrow airport and flew economy class to Minnesota where I became a research associate in the Minnesota Laboratory for Low-Vision Research in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. I stayed there for about 10 years. Finally, a two-day drive along I-94, I-90, and I-87, (plus a minute or two on Route 3) brought me to Plattsburgh.

Teaching

I currently teach classes in General Psychology (PSY101), General Psychology Lab (PSY105), and Experimental Design (PSY205). If you are currently a student in one of my classes you can use the STUDENT LOGIN link to access your grades and other important class information.

Research

My research concerns the perceptual and cognitive processes involved in reading. Currently my research students are working on a new scheme to make reading easier for people with visual impairments. My Research page contains full-text of some of my research articles, and my Google Scholar Citations page contains a complete list along with other interesting inforamtion.

Thanks for stopping by. Please contact me if you have any questions.
