Health and Wellness Resource Center

The Alternative Health module looks at health care from a holistic lens. The Disease Profiler module offers an empirical, statistical complement to the disease information.

WEB SITES  

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) -- its mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. Information from AHRQ's research helps people make more informed decisions and improve the quality of health care services. 

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) -- the world’s largest, on-going telephone health survey system, tracking health conditions and risk behaviors in the United States yearly since 1984. 

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) -- part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a great sources of Data & Statistics.

Clinton County (NY) Health Department -- information about local health programs and initiatives.

Cochrane Reviews -- this database offers free access to the abstracts and, where available, the plain language summaries of all Cochrane systematic reviews.

Healthy People 2010 -- a set of health objectives for the Nation to achieve over the first decade of the new century. It can be used by many different people, States, communities, professional organizations, and others to help them develop programs to improve health.  For statistics go to Data 2010.

National Center for Health Statistics -- part of the CDC and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

National Guideline Clearinghouse™ (NGC) -- a comprehensive public database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents. NGC is an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).

National Institutes of Health (NIH) -- -- part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

National Vital Statistics System -- the oldest and most successful example of inter-governmental data sharing in Public Health.  The shared relationships, standards, and procedures form the mechanism by which NCHS collects and disseminates the Nation's official vital statistics.

New York State Health Department -- check the Statistics & Data link and also the County Health Indicator Profiles (CHIP) for county-level health data.

New York State WIC Program -- WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a special supplemental food program that provides nutritious foods, milk, juice, formula and other items to low income pregnant or breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five.
